Dark spots formation is a common skin problem. It can occur as skin discoloration due to an increase in the production of cells known as melanocytes that increase melanin in the skin, thus turning the skin darker. Dark spots may occur due to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, acne or other skin disorders. Below are a few simple home remedies to get rid of these spots.
1. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties that can help to remove dark spots. Skin lightening properties of lemon juice comes from it’s citric and ascorbic acid which are excellent source of Vitamin C. To use this remedy, simply put some fresh lemon juice on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the dark spots area. Allow it to dry few minutes and then wash it off with plain water. Repeat this home remedy for at least two weeks to get the desired result.
Lactic acid present in buttermilk is very good for skin. It helps to exfoliate the skin to remove blemishes and dark spots without drying out the skin. Apply some buttermilk on dark spots with the help of a cotton swab and let it rest on for a couple of minutes and then wash it with plain water. If you have oily skin or acne, you can also add some lemon juice to the buttermilk. Repeat these remedy twice daily to get the best result.
3. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera has been used for thousands of years to treat many skin conditions. Aloe Vera works on dark spots by helping the skin to regenerate new skin cells. Moisturizing and cleansing properties of Aloe Vera leaves the skin fresh and rejuvenated. Apply the fresh gel thoroughly on your skin and perform a gentle massage. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing the area with warm water. Repeat twice daily .
4. Orange Peel
Orange peel works as a natural bleach to lighten the skin and clear acne and blemishes. Orange peel is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants that helps skin to get smoother and better. Mix 2 teaspoons of orange peel powder with 1 teaspoon each of organic honey and curd. Spread this paste on dark spots. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off. Repeat this 2-3 times a week to get best results.
5. Castor oil
Castor oil is known for its ability to lighten dark spots. It contains antioxidants that can protect and lighten the skin. Along with castor oil, you can also use coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil. Soak a cotton ball with a few drops of castor oil and dab on skin affected with dark spots. Gently massage for a few minutes. Leave it on for a few hours and then wash it off.
